Pilates FAQs
Q. What is Pilates?
A. Pilates is a system of exercises designed to strengthen and stretch the body. It works the body through focus, concentration, flexibility and the breath. Exercises are initiated through what we refer to as the “PowerHouse” which is beyond just the abdominals.
Q. What is the difference between the mat classes I have been taking and the apparatus/equipment?
A. Our apparatus sessions have a maximum of two participants, which allows the instructor to offer individual attention. With the apparatus, the springs work as resistance to add challenge to the workout and simultaneously help to stabilize.
Q. What are the qualifications of the Instructors?
A. All of the Instructors are certified by internationally recognized Pilates educators. They further their education with continuing education workshops.
Q. How do I start?
A. The best way is with a private session.
Q. How long before I see results and how often should I do this?
A. We absolutely encourage cross training, but for best results Pilates should be practiced at least twice a week. That could be in any combination of mat and/or apparatus. A wonderful sense of well being is typically felt immediately after a session or class.
Q. Who benefits from Pilates?
A. Everyone, even though everybody’s goals are different. Pilates can enhance athletic performance by working overly tight muscles, strengthening weak muscles and balancing the body. People who have never exercised before like the method for its systematic approach and non competitive nature. For long time exercisers, it is a new challenge.
